If you've been looking for something fun, free, and full of imagination to do in Wilmington, clear your schedule for Saturday, April 26th. The New Hanover County Library is hosting the Cape Fear Fandom Faire, and it’s going to be a day packed with creativity, games, stories, and good vibes for all ages.
This isn’t just any library event—it’s a full-on community convention, and they’re pulling out all the stops to make it special. Think cosplay, crafts, games, local authors, and food trucks... all in one spot! Whether you're a hardcore gamer, a curious creative, or just someone who loves a good story, there's something here for you.
Cosplay, Crafts, and Story Magic
Come dressed as your favorite character—or just admire the amazing costumes in the Cosplay Competition! With multiple categories for judging, there will be a wide pool of winners. For the artsy folks, there’ll be button-making, plus storybook readings perfect for the young (and young at heart).
Games Galore
We at Cape Fear Games are super excited to be hosting board game demos throughout the day! Want to try Magic: The Gathering or Dungeons & Dragons but never knew where to start? You're in luck—we're running Learn to Play sessions and even a mini campaign to give you a taste.
Meet Local Authors
Award-winning authors Emily Colin and Mary Flinn will be joining us to share stories and spend time with readers. They'll be hosting a special story time session you won’t want to miss.
Zine Zone
Welcome to the Zine Zone—a space dedicated to all things DIY publishing. If you’ve ever wanted to make your own mini-magazine filled with poems, rants, or art, this is where you need to be. Zines are raw, expressive, and deeply personal. Plus, they tie in perfectly with other creative hobbies like bookbinding, papermaking, and scrapbooking. Come learn, share, and maybe even create one of your own.
Old-School Gaming
Yes, not only will there be board games and crafts, but there will also be Super Nintendo games set up for anyone feeling a bit nostalgic (or just into pixel-powered fun). Or, if you've always wanted to try out an SNES, this could be your chance!
Scavenger Hunt
Easter might be over, but the hunt continues! Join in on the Cape Fear Fandom Faire Scavenger Hunt—a fun way to explore the event and maybe win a little something. It’s also a great chance to get familiar with the library and everything it has to offer.
Food Trucks? Yes, Please.
Three food trucks will be on site to keep you fueled and happy:
- Kona Ice – For those who might need a shaved ice fix, this will surely cool you down.
- GypSea Maize – Enjoy freshly cooked kettle corn. A great gluten and vegan-free snack!
- Happy Face Funnel Cakes – Classic fair food staples like funnel cakes and fresh-squeezed lemonade.
Just remember: no food or drinks inside the library—but there’ll be plenty of space outside to hang and enjoy.
The Vibe
This whole event is about fostering creativity and curiosity—especially for kids, teens, and young adults. But honestly, it’s fun for anyone who loves fantasy, sci-fi, comics, games, or just cool community events. It’s perfect for families, friend groups, or even solo adventurers looking for something new.
